DoThe Salt Water Gargle. :D

I do not believe that the H1N1 virus is going to burn all our houses down and sink our ships, but I do believe that we need to take some precautions now that many people are about to be exposed to said virus. It is just like when any other form of illness becomes present in our society, we need to go an extra step to stay healthy, as well as keep others healthy. For example, cough into your arm, rather than the person in front of you. WASH YOUR HANDS/SANITIZE before you eat/ after you touch anything other people have touched. I make my baton students wash their hands before and after baton, because they end up touching each other, and their batons. I just think that its more so about being considerate. Like, I was walking out of walmart today and this guy blew his cigarette smoke into my face. To this man: I not only received your nasty secondhand smoke, but any other disgusting bacteria entrapped in your breath. Like thank you very much, I really appreciated the effort you made to share.

Needless to say, he did not receive a very kind facial expression from me.

H1N1, is definately not a joke, but it would be much more efficient if people learned, understood, and carried out the precautions that medical professional have outlined for the population. Of course, there are other much, much worse illnesses present throughout the globe, but this is affecting our nation right now, therefore that is why many people are concerned, and why we don't hear about other countries freaking out about it so much, we aren't used to these mega viruses, like other countries are. Nevertheless, I believe that people should be more constructive with their concern, rather than freaking out and going to the hospital because they have a mere cough or sniffle.

In regards to the vaccine, I think I will get it, AFTER all the at-risk people, and target groups have been vaccinated, as there is a shortage. And yes, There are target groups, I heard someone say in class that there weren't but there definately are. As I said in class the symptoms are more evident in children as their immune systems are not completely developed, and well, havent developed immunity to many illnesses yet. There are many other target groups, but that is just an example. I believe I will get the shot, because one, I have an extremely weak immune system, and two, there is really no harm in getting it. Unless reactions are common when you get immunized, and depending on what kind of reactions you have to ANY medication, there is no real reason to not get the vaccine, other than, like Hayley said, you want to obtain this virus, you're scared of the affects, or if you have faith in your own immune system to fight off anything you may contract. I have no faith in my immmune system, which is why i want the vaccine to aid it.

So basically that was my rant, health and hygiene are pretty important to me, so I have lots to say on this topic.

  1. Ah good rant Stacey, I definitely agree with the points you made. I will be getting the vaccine too, mostly because my mom made it mandatory. But I agree, people just need to learn proper health/hygeine practices
